Jeewan Chanicka is the Superintendent of Equity, Anti-Racism and Anti-Oppression in the Toronto District School board. His current work includes the focused and explicit embedding of an anti-oppressive approach through structures that impact student achievement and well-being.
He has a BA in Conflict Resolution and Culturally appropriate forms of Mediation and his Masters Degree in Education. He has consulted with the United Nations University of Peace as part of a team to develop a curriculum framework on Peace Education in the Islamic context implemented in various parts of the world.
As an educator, he has worked with and supported schools to build their environmental focus in terms of their activities as well as the learning they do in classrooms. And continues to work with educators to understand how to develop social justice focused classrooms and schools
